Sculpture students acquire an expansive toolkit of technical, conceptual, and professional skills to craft sustainable lives as artists. Located in the 11th floor of the Center for Visual Arts the Sculpture Suite houses over 7,000 square feet of specialized shop and classroom space including a woodshop, 3D printing room, indoor foundry for ceramic shell investment casting, metal fabrication equipment, wax-working rooms, patina and spray booth, upper and lower division studios, and a plaster room shared with the Ceramics program.
For those who prefer to learn sculpting from the comfort of their own home, there are virtual sculpture classes available. These courses, like the Sculpting Portrait class, allow you to work with an expert artist in a supportive environment. They are great for adults, beginners, or advanced artists.

Michael Seewald’s two, three and four day compositional classes (fun-shops) are held regularly in the East Village industrial area of downtown San Diego. He also teaches them about once or twice a year in Carmel, Napa and Yosemite.
The first day zeroes in on what Michael finds to be the weakest link in every photographer’s arsenal; composition; that ‘ability to see’ how an image translates from 3-D world onto 2-D canvas. He explains how to use some simple thought processes that have gotten him and his students into the top ten in just about all of the competitions they enter!
